Stable equipment is usually made out of galvanised steel these days. Galvanising offers very good and economical protection against rust, which occurs commonly with non-galvanised steel. However, the layer of galvanising offers no protection against the damage caused by acids and leaches. Acids and leaches corrode zinc as well as iron and many other metals. Acids and leaches appear in stables through many sources: in liquid, semi-liquid and solid manure and especially in silage.
