As part of the " Weidefest ", the German Pasture Festival which took place in Schönbronn, near Rothenburg ob der Tauber, the tenth World Fence Building Championships took place.
Ten professional fence builders had come from New Zealand, Switzerland, France and Denmark for this lively competition, which originated in New Zealand.
In response to the German Swen Blumrich's victory of 2006, New Zealanders took impressive revenge this year.
With his convincing performance, Nick Liefting took the cup back to New Zealand and fulfilled his life's dream of becoming the World Fence Building Champion. The Swiss competitor Matthias Werren became runner-up thanks to his quick and precise work and years of experience in fence building. Current New Zealand title holder, Paul van Beers, placed third with a remarkable demonstration of his skills.
Several hundred spectators watched this now-traditional event and witnessed the ever-increasing level of safety in modern electric fencing.
The three competition judges, Bill Schuler (New Zealand), Jean-Paul Camus (France) and Günther Herkert (Germany) were impressed by the high-level of quality of this year's fence construction.
As in past years, the World Fence Building Championships was sponsored by PATURA.
